Custom-Built Cabins & Garden Rooms
Turn a quiet corner of your garden into an outdoor retreat with a cabin or garden room. A space to work, rest, or escape.
Do you have a secluded space in your garden you’d like to transform into a cabin or garden room for work, leisure, or play? Would you like to set up an Airbnb and offer something a little different? At Treetop Co, we design and build custom cabins suitable for holiday rentals, garden rooms, home offices, and more.
Specialists in Bespoke Cabin Designs
Treetop Co is a team of designers and craftspeople specialising in creating bespoke cabins, garden rooms, and treehouses.
Whether you’re looking for a distraction-free office in your garden, extra living space, an entertaining room for friends and family, or a self-contained holiday rental, we design and build custom cabins tailored to you.
As with our other services, we work with you from initial consultation to the build and beyond, blending our engineering expertise with creative craftsmanship to make your vision a reality.
Similar to treehouses and log cabins, we construct our cabins and garden rooms with sustainably managed timber, working closely with trusted suppliers to source species that are both durable and environmentally responsible. Instead of using off-the-shelf designs or prefabricated cabins, we create thoughtfully designed, sustainable spaces that integrate seamlessly with their natural surroundings.
We offer a complete service for our cabin design and builds. Take a look at some of our designs below and get in touch with us via our Consultation Form if you would like to discuss your own project.
“The whole experience from initial contact through design to final build was amazing. Professional and thorough. Luke delivered on time and above expectations throughout. Can’t recommend more highly.”
Our Cabin Building Process
1. Free Consultation
Get the ball rolling with a phone call or free consultation to discuss ideas for your cabin design in the UK.
Request a complimentary design visit where we’ll conduct a survey of your site, discuss your options, and build a brief.
2. Site survey
We meet with you to develop your brief and establish the cabin design criteria. We conduct a site survey and use state-of-the-art reality scanning technology to scope the space. This provides us with a perfectly accurate model to work with.
3. Cabin Design
Your cabin or garden room design will be presented to you as a 3D model showing how the structure will look and function. Combining information gathered from the site survey with our substantial expertise, we create a structure that seamlessly blends into its environment and is completely unique to the space.
4. Planning
If planning is required we can provide 2D drawings (plans, elevations, site and location plan), and prepare the documentation for your application. We also offer management of planning applications and will take care of any site surveys or anything else that may need to take place.
5. Cabin Build
Using the best hardware and techniques, we build you a stunning timber structure which is safe, durable, sensitive to nature and doesn’t cause any harm to the environment around it.
6. Aftercare
With a focus on sustainability, we use high-quality durable materials to ensure longevity in every cabin we build. We provide a 3-year guarantee on workmanship, meaning that if anything occurs as your new structure settles in, we will return to resolve it.

FAQs About Our Custom-Built Cabins & Garden Rooms
-
A garden room is a free-standing building, separate from your main home. Unlike a conservatory or a traditional extension its quicker to install, and flexible in how you can use it. Many customers choose a garden room as a home office, studio, or gym because it avoids some of the costs and regulations of extending your house.
-
In most cases, you won’t need planning permission for your garden room or cabin. Cabins and garden rooms usually fall under permitted development rights, which means planning permission isn’t required. There are some limits around overall height, distance from your boundary, and how the space will be used. We are here to guide you through the rules and ensure the building is compliant.
-
Once the base is in place, a typical garden room or cabin takes around 3-4 weeks to complete. The exact timing depends on the size, features and your personal customisations. We’ll give you a clear schedule at the start so you know exactly when your new space will be ready to enjoy.
-
Every garden building needs a solid, level base. Our choice of foundation are ground screws, which are faster, cheaper, more environmentally friendly and far less destructive to install than a concrete slab foundation is.
-
Yes, we can fully insulate your cabin so it is ready to heat in the winter and will stay cool in the summer. All windows will be double glazed for sound and thermal insulation. Our preferred choices of insulation materials are sheep’s wool and steico wood fibre (a bio-wood based fibre insulation) both provide excellent insulation properties whilst being more sustainable and environmentally friendly than the typical alternatives such as rock wool and foam / foil board insulation.
-
Your cabin will be built from top quality materials using specialist construction techniques ensuring a beautiful, functional structure which stands the test of time. The structure will be built from predominantly douglas fir which has very good resistance to rot and is extremely durable outside without any need for treatment. For staircases, railings, and balustrades, we use chestnut and oak and douglas fir or larch for the treads. For other components we may use other choice timbers which are naturally durable, such as British Cedar larch (our preferred cladding choice).
The timber we use is sourced from local sawmills that guarantee sustainable forestry management. Our two wood suppliers are located in the Wye Valley, 30 minutes from our workshop in Salisbury. We aim to avoid using products from overseas which have a larger embedded carbon footprint.
Doors and windows we typically build from wood; however, uPVC is an option we provide if budget is a concern.
-
The price of a cabin or garden room depends on its size, layout, and specification. As a guide, most of our projects cost £1,800 - £2,200 per square meter for a fully finished cabin.
-
Absolutely. We can adapt the size, shape, and layout of your garden room to suit how you want to use it. From extra windows to internal partitions or even a multi-room design.
-
Yes. Many of our customers want their garden room to feel just like an extension of their home. We can install lighting, power sockets, and heating and can also arrange plumbing if you’d like to include a shower room or WC. We’ll coordinate everything so your garden room is fully ready to use from day one.
-
Our garden rooms are designed to be low-maintenance due to the naturally durable timbers we use in construction. All you should need to do is make sure that the structure (roof and decking) stays clean and free of debris.
-
Yes, in most cases. A well-built garden room provides extra living space that makes your property more appealing to future buyers. Whether it’s marketed as a garden office, gym, or studio, it can add lifestyle value as well as financial value, though the exact uplift depends on your local property market.
-
All of our cabins and garden rooms come with structural guarantees, along with warranties on materials and workmanship. We pride ourselves on ongoing aftercare too, so if you ever need advice or support once your garden room is built, our team is only a call away.
-
Some factors can affect where and how a garden room is built, such as restricted access, sloping ground, or nearby trees. We’ll assess everything during your site survey and talk you through the best options. If extra preparation work is needed, such as levelling or clearance, we can handle that as part of the project.
